October 18 - Character Trait

Continuing On Anne Frank

I believe most of my classmates choose the main character for their presentation. However, I did not choose Anne Frank. Instead, I choose Mrs. Van Daan.

The reason why I chose her is not because she is nice. Contrarily, she is mean, awkward and self-centred. I chose to describe her because her name always appears on Anne's diary.

As I have mentioned, she doesn't have a good personality. That's why I do not admire her or emotionally connect with her. And I believe I am not similar to her because I would never flirt with Anne's Dad if I were her.
I think there are a lot of things about her should change, especially the way she treated Anne Frank. She should try to be nicer to Anne and her mom since they were living together; and there is simply no reason for her to be mean because Anne has done nothing bad to her.

Personally I do not hate her. However, I do not agree with what she did and I think she ought to change her attitude.

  1. People always want to talk about the good part of the story. However, I think you've made a good decision in choosing the antagonist of the story. According to your post, Van Daan is a bad woman who is really mean. She's also flirting Anne's dad. But I think she'd change at the end of story after some conflicts.
Anyway, hope that the story would come to the way you want.
    Well done :)

  2. Hi Kathleen, I thought that you was gonna pick Anne to talk about but you actually didn't. :) Anyway,as important as Anne, Mrs. Van Daan is a person that partly makes the story more interesting. As described, she is not a good person for sure and that's the truth of life. Everywhere, there are good and bad people. There are people that we cannot get along with very well. That's fine. Hatred doesn't work out well. We just have to be nice with them and as long as they realize they are being bad, rude. They might change their attitudes and behavior in a positive way. When living together within a roof, we have to get used to each other's behavior and attitude no matter they are good or bad. But I think, as long as they stay together long enough,Mrs. Van Daan would find out Anne is an innocent and lovely girl.

  3. After reading your post , i believe that Mrs. Van Daan must be the character arousing our interest.I agree that she should be better to Anne and her mom .In reality , sometimes we are not realizing that we do something bad to others .Like Van Daan , she really need someone to remind her to change attitude. So , don't be angry if someone want to remind you something .They may want you to do better!!
